– Ah! (thud) – Trolls beware, your days of ruling the internet are numbered. Rotten Tomatoes has created
a new feature that could take down online trolls forever called Verified audience ratings. Back when trolls inundated
Captain Marvel’s Rotten Tomatoes page with negative reviews prior to the film’s release in
March, Rotten Tomatoes made a new policy. That audience comments will remain closed until a film opens in theaters. (epic music) – Would you like to know? (epic music) What you really are. – But now, the critic
aggregator and movie website is taking things a step
further with a new feature called verified ratings and reviews. Giving movie goers a way to
confirm they have purchased a ticket to the movie
they’re writing about. Online trolls have
attacked a number of films via the site’s audience
score system in the past. Including Star Wars: The Last Jedi. (epic music) Now all visitors will still
be able to rate and review movies on the site, but
the verified audience score will be the new default display on each movie’s landing page. Where as the audience score
compiled from all the ratings will be accessible under a
separate all audience tab. Plus reviews from verified
audience members will be marked with a verified check mark badge. So here’s how it works,
starting May 23, a user can opt in to get their
rating and review verified, if they purchase their
movie ticket on Fandango, the parent company of Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, AMC theaters,
Regal, and Cinemark theaters plan to participate as ticket
purchase authenticators later this year. The hope is that audience
members who buy physical tickets at a theater’s box office,
will be able to participate in the verified review
system in the future. For much more on this story, head to THR.com. Until next time, for the
