  1. When all's said and done I am not going to shed a tear about there being one less indoctrination and brainwashing centre in the world aka a church.

  2. Bro I'm sorry… it's just a building. Nobody was hurt. It's not a huge loss to anybody. Things can be rebuilt. People can't.

  3. It hits so hard when you know people will never see what it truly looked like ever again. I consider myself so incredibly lucky to have visited this beautiful cathedral multiple times.

  4. A loss to civilisation is a win for every honest and authentic soul!

Rebuild what you want, but not a civilisation!

    Peace
    Jo&π

  5. Whether its a White Nationalist Trump Supporter or a Muslim who torched this Cathedral doesn't matter. They need to be brought to justice.

  6. Ok just for you again! You really are like children, don't you know?

I will tear this house of lies(civilisation) down, so that no being, no soul, no spirit, and most certainly no body will ever be able to rebuild it!
You all are in for something you never read anywhere!
    Peace

  7. MSNBC LEFTISTS FEIGNING CARING ABOUT A LANDMARK SYMBOL OF CHRISTIANITY IN A PATHETIC ATTEMPT TO HIDE THEIR CONTEMPT FOR ALL IT STANDS FOR.

  8. Time to say good bye, no need for a new one. Most of the young people no longer care about religion in France or the rest of Europe.

  9. According to Travel & Leisure, Notre Dame Cathedral was the second most popular tourist attraction in Europe, attracting 13,650,000 visitors annually.

  10. Thankyou Lawrence. Beautiful words. I have indeed had the wonder of visiting Notre Dame. Our neverending story with hope.

  11. This building burning is so beautiful!!! If not for architecture and age – it was a worthless building. The sooner religion dies, the better.

  12. Yes, it will be a symbol of civilsation rebuilding itself. Donations from all over the world will come flooding to France.
    And it's good like that.
But where is the flood of donations for the people drowning in the mediteranean sea? The families split up and kept in cages? The homeless that sleep rough in backyards of rich's quarters?
What civilisation does this symbol represent then?
This beautiful. proud old building deserves to be rescued. If you look at it as a symbol of civilisation itself, honouring it by making it a symbol of something more honourable might be a good idea as well.

  13. A expensive monument to greed ,hypocrisy and paedophilia burns down and people are upset about it? The only thing that could've been better than this was if the Pope and his entourage of child molesting conmen were inside when it collapsed. Gee ,just like the next school shooting I send my "thoughts and prayers ".Give me a break

  14. Thank you Lawrence for the coverage and for your words on Notre Dame. I'm from Spain, and Notre Dame will always be at the heart of our european culture. It has nothing to do with religion, I`m an atheist but visited it twice, and I'm crying bitter tears for Notre Dame today.

  15. Who is cutting onions. I was ok until the singing started, how moving and how desperately sad for my beloved France

  16. Oh spare us your crocodile tears. You do nothing but parody and ridicule everything Notre Dame Cathedral stands for on an incessant basis.

  17. The burning of this beautiful work of art is heartbreaking. I started to cry when I saw (and heard) the bystanders singing while in great pain.

  18. Your kids and grandkids will see refugee camps because of climate change which keeps getting ignored by mainstream media. There are now more climate refugees than political and increases at about one per second.

  19. I know I felt the echoes of centuries when entering Notre Dam, and now those echoes have been released to the heavens….sad

  20. I have been there. I have been inside. I am an atheist. But Notre Dame is/was – like Lawrence said – a part of human civilisation. As such I experienced it and that experience gives a big hope in mankind. Rebuild Notre Dame.

  21. I've been to Paris a few times (I'm Irish – easy to travel) but I did live for a college scholarship in Reims which has EXACTLY the same cathedral built – the Notre Dame… and I've climbed it. It is LITERALLY a stone-for-stone copy of the one in Paris.

I hope they can re-build, I don't doubt that they will. A reminder of how easily man's progress and civilisation can burn…

  22. Notre Dame!
"And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed."
"I have cried until the tears no longer come; my heart is broken."

  23. Thank you for your final word. That near destruction was averted and that a true miracle of world wide faith redeemed Notre Dame from the flames, was deeply felt worldwide. In those moments and hours the power of prayer, faith, strength, sn universal love was demonstrated as it never had before.

May this new awakening, occurring during such an auspicious week, increase our knowledge of each other, diminish fear, and stimulate hope.

    G-d bless.

    Watching on YouTube from Ecuador.

  24. Surprised drumpf isn't tweeting, telling his moronic followers he could build something as magnificent & transcendent as such a piece of art & history!!!

  25. We are coming for you fake news guzzlers we are going to give you all enemas till you can get turd sucking Lawrence out of your butts

  26. 😪😪😪I had the privilege to have visited it several times. Heartbreaking to see a treasure of culture destroyed like that.😭😭😭

  27. This Fire was VERY, VERY convenient for Macron, they are trying to blame ISIS, but, you have got to admit, that it seems far too convenient for Macron at a time the French people were about to oust him.. This type of incident seems to happen, at times of dire need for all presidents, no matter what country, or what disaster it brings to the Nation concerned. This is a fact. Keep your eyes open for future disasters and see for yourself, by keeping a mental note from previous disasters.

  28. I love Lawrence. It is a massive loss but all countries must concentrate spending on saving our planet by sequestering CO2 and Methane.

  29. The day you make such a speech for a scientific laboratory is the day I agree with you on what civilization is. You just pointed out what civilization was in less enlightened times. For the record, yes, people around the world saw that cathedral burn. And it was thanks to technology, not prayer. When it is rebuilt, it will be through the use of tools and technology, not prayer.

  30. Thank you, sir. I've been meaning to thank you for so long, for so many things. You are an Atticus Finch for our time, brushed-up sleek for the 21st century. Cheers.

  31. They couldn't afford to restore it, asking for private donations, but now they can afford to rebuild it, which will cost infinitely more. Politicians.

  32. The church, as an organisation, should be outlawed and disbanded, for its crimes, but seeing a symbol of human ingenuity, culture and beauty in flames, is an image of horror and I´m glad that, at least at this moment, experts think, that it was an accident and not arson.
This fire is enough of a tragedy, without the catastrophe, of knowing, that someone set this icon ablaze.

  33. I was able to see this beautiful architectural structure, Notre Dame Cathedral, in 2001. It's gothic beautiful design left me in awe. Thanks Lawrence. 🙏🙏

  34. Hey Liberals did you know that a Somalian man threw a five year old
white kid off a thrid floor balcony at the mall of America and not one
word from these Liberal propaganda machines. CNN, MSNBC,and NBC. NOT ONE
    WORD!!!!

  35. or is it an omen for the beginning of the end of human civilization? I hope not, but the global moves by many @ this time to the destruction of civilized norms & societies makes me wonder.

  36. In the 1960s Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt was chiseled from the rock to move it up 65 feet to prevent it from being submerged in water when the Aswan dam was completed. The original builders built it so that every year on Ramses birthday the sun would shine through the door to the back of the temple to illuminate the king. It must have been a challenged to the engineers to move it so precisely. They did it, and I believe it was a feat of engineering and artistic genius. I recommend you watch the Abu Simbel Project. I say this to help everyone who have been disheartened by the burning of Norte Dame that it will be done AND can be done.

  37. Glad to see "news" is still a 4 letter word at nbc. If there was evidence that muslim arsonists started this fire- would you post it? I dont think so.

  38. Lawrence is pure class. He has great values, the culture and professionalism to make the right comment at the right time.

  39. Civilisation seems to be loosing the ability to turn the bloody camera phone the right way when shooting video.

  40. Well I haven't heard God mention not one time. I wonder why, oooh! it's the creation they worship more then the Creator.

  42. Might be a good moment to mention, uh, climate devastation. We have no clue what anyone is going to be seeing. If anything. We will burn, hanging onto our "beloved traditions".

  43. How do you speak for almost four minutes about this and never once use the words "Catholic", "church", or "God"? How do you speak for any length of time about this tragedy and not reflect on the lost to Christianity and the Church universal? How do you not pause to reflect that even though this building is devastated, the Church universal lives on? Sorry, but this segment of "Last Word" fails on all levels.

  44. Am I alone in seeing the irony in nbc news warning us about unfounded conspiracy theories while at the same time devoting a section of their own website to the "Russia investigation"? Sure is a good thing we have an intellect of Mr O'Donnell's caliber to tell us what to think about stuff.

  45. I live by a saying "Something good comes from something adverse." I personally feel the Steeple was meant to come down, I always felt it was out of place. The Cathedral survived, no one lost their lives, no other buildings were damaged and look at the many people who came together.

  46. Lawrence O’Donnell, this tribute to Notre Dame, as well as your most perfect words when defining the meaning of ‘Civilization ‘, are indeed the most moving and uplifting heard on a day when the World pined for words of honour such as yours. The caring of your caressing sincerity lifted the Cathedral to honor itself – and the hymns sung with uninterrupted, needless vocal ‘explanation, hearts felt the weeping of sadness and joy. Pray all understood the beauty of Civilization as could only have been felt through your words. Truly magnificent! Muito obrigada. Saudades.
